Lust for Senior Knock-Out Twittering

Despite a valiant effort, Italian Costantino Rocca at Conwy Golf Club, couldn't find what was needed to win the European Tour Senior Welsh Open on Sunday. Great to see the course packed out with spectators for such a big event, and Sam Torrance play the course. Was also good to see nobody completely ripped the course up! Save Mr Quiros, scoring a new course record "64" off the back tees! My turn to play the course with the exact same setup as the weekends event tonight, as I go into the 3rd round of the Club Championship Knock-Out - it's a hard and long enough road getting to Round 3, now the course is setup at pretty much it's hardest setting...

So what else? Wrexham sign Eifion Williams, formiddable striker, who i hear can also play left midfield, so maybe the talk of Wrexham being top heavy with strikers isn't entirely true. I hope Juan Ugarte makes a full recovery from his injury / surgery complications though, if not, with regret, he'd have to go. What a striker when 'on it' though...

Twittering on... Ive added my Twitter badge/widget to this site, a kind of mini-blog I have open on my desk at work which only allows 140 characters, sort of SMS style, to just blog quick thoughts and stuff... i'll twitter away in that from time to time, it's down the right hand side.

That's about it for now... oh, I heard Travis' new track last night on the drive home, it's shit (like it was gonna be amazing or something). It's Iggy Pops "Lust For Life" drum beat slowed down with just terrible guitar and lyrics over it. The track started with no introduction or indication as to who or what it was, and I honestly thought, cool, a slowed down "Lust for Life", how's this going to work, could be interesting. No, it's just some middle of the road guitar band, with some bastard moaning on about his 'genes'. No apologies, it's shite.

"Where were you when I was edging?"

And you'd forgotten. OK, long time no post. A lot can happen in a month. I've upped-sticks / up-rooted from my 27 years or so of Conwy living and headed out towards Chester (just still in North Wales). A commute back 'home' to Conwy sees me driving into the postcard scene every other day, yet still I know it's "just Conwy". The other week days the commute takes me along Mold Road, Wrexham and every other day a twitch for a season ticket as I can't but help looking at the stadium, and peek through the gates to get a flash view of the green pitch and the concrete steps (soon to be demolished) of the Kop...

Reason for the move, is mainly down to my girlfriends new job out near Chester, working in a large .com company (9 years into this internet malarkey as a job/career, and i'm still keepin' it real in the N.Wales agencies! He tells himself...).

So i've moved. Into the groove of the A55 commute, and Wrexham traffic systems. I now have a "Welsh Water Account Reference Number", pay "Council Tax", have a "BT Account Number", have several shopping hours in IKEA under my belt (as well as the meatballs) this must make me a veteran? Had to laugh when emptying my jeans pockets (for the first spin in the washing machine) to find a Homebase Spend & Save Card 'application form' - that'll be from the time I had to nip there and buy my very own 'claw hammer'! We're also contracted to keep the garden tidy: a lawn mower, edging knife and a pair of garden shears are in the shed. What more could I want... mmm that Black & Decker Workmate? Never!...?

So there we are, i've been shopping in places I never thought my card would be swiped, and sorting everything an unfurnished house might need... As a break in the middle of this lot I was at a mates party one weekend in Shrewsbury, don't remember too much about it save the "hungover, ive got to pull over in this lay-by to lie down for an hour" drive home.

So anyway, just briefly, football. Morecambe the first home game of the season... roll on August. Our house backs onto the local football clubs ground/field, already i've looked them up and where they stand in the Welsh League system... think Conference North. More posts soon.

Another Loan (Moan)

OK, i'll cover it, as briefly as possible; Wrexham FC... amongst everything else at the club off the pitch, I feel we have made too many loan signings recently (7 in 5 weeks with more to come). They just don't seem to have any heart in it, we're now in "the relegation battle" - ive tried not to write that before, or if i have it's been with a sense of fun, still in the hope and belief "Its just a phase, it's Wrexham!" - not anymore. A survival of football league status; 5 home league games remaining, just 4 goals and 3 points scored, no win, since Brian Careys appointment, 9 league games ago. Strong centre-back Steve Evans now serving a 5 match suspension for his red on Sunday. I believe Gareth Evans will be centre-back - a player so shit we couldn't even get rid of in the summer - and they tried.

Loanees replacing regular fit first team players places in the 'team', I don't get it!? Fair enough to patch up injury / suspension holes - but i think there are 4/5 loanees now, all starting - where is the sense of 'team' there?!

Got to get a Wrexham / Everton tie-in here; Wrexham currently have Evertons 3rd or 4th keeper "John Ruddy" on-loan, starting now ahead of international first-team keeper Ingham, who admittedly was a liability / shite in his last few games, though kept a clean sheet against Wales... From what i've been reading each game, John Ruddy is "Ruddy ...insert cheap shot here...".

In total fairness the Shrewsbury match report reads well for on-loan, Jeff Whitley (Cardiff) as perhaps the best player on the pitch - have i just contradicted my entire post? I dunno, but i do know that another loanee has been signed yesterday; a striker from Stoke City called Martin Paterson.

I'm behind Carey with my support. One of the best centre-backs the club has had is in danger of his reputation being tarnished by his work in a job he didn't even apply for. He may prove to be a great manager, but thrust into managing a depleted, low morale, injury riddled squad with loss of coaches, after the transfer deadline, at 22nd in League 2 with not many games remaining at the time of his appointment, is just cruel! I'm led to beleive this current run is the worst in Wrexhams "history" - of which, there is lots! Brian, be a hero!

Oh to start this season over again; Unbeaten for 7 league games, "hammering" Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough in the Carling Cup, and taking Birmingham to extra time in the next round! From the depths then, let's get it back for the final fight...

How good does: Season 2006/07, League 2, Wrexham - Pos. 23rd - Relegated from the football league Look on any players CV?! Pull it together!

I will leave posting about Wrexham FC for a few weeks now. Let it take it's course and see what happens. Follow the results on that vidi-printer people!

Todays Betfair prices for the drop:

Torquay United 1.15
Wrexham 1.67
Boston United 2.00
Accrington Stanley 3.55

* There is rumour of Boston Utd going into administration... how ironic! We're relegated to League 2 because of the 10 point ruling, the very rule which could keep us in the league this season! Dire. Ashamed to have included this paragraph in my post to be honest.

Where is Forest Green? Under an ironic hat?

Another couple of weeks hard time following Wrexham, slumping to a midweek 1-0 loss at home to Stockport County, the goal against coming in the 94th minute. I'm off to the Racecourse this Saturday and probably get very vocal as they take on Wycombe. Last time i saw Wycombe was when Tony Adams was in charge, remember him - awesome player, shite manager. Wrexham rife with injuries, have within the last week taken to strengthening the side in some short contract loans, one in the form of Cherno Samba - ring any bells? Did for me, was kicking myself for a good day thinking of the name, then it clicked "Brian Carey plays Championship Manager!!!" Cherno Samba would be almost guaranteed to score at least 2 goals a game in the PC game Championship Manager! Fantastic... in reality i think he's scored "one" football league goal in his entire career.

Hopes not raised too high then, I could still be digging out a map to try and find out exactly where "Forest Green" is, anybody? Any ideas?

Again i was seen making the trip to Conwy Utd and paying my £2.50 at the turnstile last weekend, as they took on league leaders Denbigh Town, I was pleasantly surprised to see a bustle of people around the pitch-side fencing, in the clubhouse and in the stands! Conwy lost 1-0 in a 'fast and open game' (I say fast, fast for League 1 in the Welsh football pyramid!), so fast the ref got caught out and knocked out. Ref stood at the edge of the area for a Conwy corner, swung in a little wide out over the 18 yard line, Conwy head and a Denbigh head go up for it, ref between them - out cold! The severly overweight liner took the reigns as ref, and i think a Denbigh coach took the line: Lower league / grass roots football gentlemen, get involved!

Not posted for a week or two, mainly due to illnesses and the like, on the mend and all seems much better now - the mid-winter colds, ear aches and the like. I'll get back to more regular posting from next week.

Come on Wrexham, oh and Wales in the rugby 6 nations, let's see just how much of a disappointing or rewarding sporting weekend I can have!

Football and sport aside, this really cheered me up last week, the "ironic hat" mwynhewch:

Just a shame his other Room 101 entry, Ben Elton, isnt on YouTube. Ben Elton had already been cast into Room 101 a few years ago, but they resurrected him, just to put him back down again...
